Dr. Joyce Brothers, a well-known television psychologist, advice columnist and
author, published a quiz on May 17, 2006 entitled What is the truth about trusting?.
One of the questions (and answers) was as follows:
QUESTION Scientists have created what some call a "trust potion." True or False?
ANSWER TRUE. The hormone oxytocin, which occurs naturally in the brain and helps regulate emotion, has been shown in studies to lead people to be more trusting. It also seems to promote social interaction, and might be used to help people with social phobias or autism. Oxytocin is also called the "love hormone" and helps promote mother/baby bonding.
